Our Story

Hawg Master Charters was founded in 1984 by Captain Jim Taylor. Coming from a hardworking family with deep roots in the Great Lakes, Jim grew up immersed in commercial fishing and boat manufacturing. His early years were spent fishing alongside his father, primarily targeting perch and walleye. However, during Jim’s youth, pollution had taken a toll on the fishery, and fishing was not as fruitful as it is today. It wasn’t until Jim witnessed a few steelhead breaking the surface while duck hunting that he realized there might be a thriving ecosystem starting to emerge. Inspired by this discovery, Jim became a pioneer on the Lower Niagara River and Lake Ontario, developing innovative techniques to target these fish.
